Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes ( Franco-Provençal: Ôvèrgne-Rôno-Ârpes; Occitan: Auvèrnhe Ròse Aups) is an administrative region of France that was created on 1 January 2016 from the former French regions Auvergne and Rhône-Alpes. It is in the central and eastern parts of southern France. Its capital is the city of Lyon .
