Gammaproteobacteria is a class of bacteria in the phylum Pseudomonadota (synonym Proteobacteria). It contains about 250 genera, which makes it the most genus-rich taxon of the Prokaryotes. Several medically, ecologically, and scientifically important groups of bacteria belong to this class. All members of this class are Gram-negative.
The phylum Pseudomonadota encompasses classes Acidithiobacilia, Alphaproteobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, Hydrogenophilia, and Zetaproteobacteria. The phylum includes a wide variety of pathogenic genera, such as Escherichia, Salmonella, Vibrio, Yersinia, Legionella, and many others.

Pseudomonas is a genus of Gram-negative bacteria belonging to the family Pseudomonadaceae in the class Gammaproteobacteria. The 313 members of the genus demonstrate a great deal of metabolic diversity and consequently are able to colonize a wide range of niches.

Gammaproteobacteria consists of human pathogens (e.g., Pseudomonas aeruginosa Salmonella, Vibrio, and Yersinia ,); some genera are methane oxidizers and some genera are in symbiosis with hydrothermal vent dwelling animals. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a stringently aerobic, nonfermenting motile bacterium.
