Jorge Ubico. Jorge Ubico Castañeda (10 November 1878 – 14 June 1946), nicknamed Number Five or also Central America's Napoleon, was a Guatemalan dictator. A general in the Guatemalan military, he was elected to the presidency in 1931, in an election where he was the only candidate.

Ubico is widely considered the last of the liberal authoritarian rulers in Latin America. A Colonel by the age of 28, Ubico was a military governor by the age of 29. In 1920, he became Chief of Army Staff.
