Apr 11, 2023 · Located at an elevation of 2,388 feet, Lookout Mountain sits on the border between North Georgia and Tennessee. Just a 10-minute drive from downtown Chattanooga (or a 2-hour drive from Atlanta ), the mountain is home to some of the most famous tourist attractions in the area.
Lookout Mountain is a mountain ridge located at the northwest corner of the U.S. state of Georgia, the northeast corner of Alabama, and along the southeastern Tennessee state line in Chattanooga. Lookout Mountain was the scene of the 18th-century "Last Battle of the Cherokees" in this area during the Nickajack Expedition.
Only six miles from downtown Chattanooga, Rock City is 1700 feet above sea level, with a 100-foot waterfall that cascades down the mountain and the famous Swing-A-Long bridge that spans nearly 200 feet. This self-guided tour gives visitors a birds-eye view from high atop Lookout Mountain.
