Philip II, Duke of Pomerania-Stettin (29 July 1573 – 3 February 1618) was from 1606 to 1618 the reigning duke of Pomerania -Stettin and is considered to be among of the most artistic of the Pomeranian dukes. He married Sophia of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg in 1607. The marriage remained childless. Life.

Sophie of Pomerania-Stettin ( c. 1460 – 26 April 1504, Wismar ), was Duchess of Mecklenburg by marriage from 1478 to 1504. She was the daughter of Eric II of Pomerania-Wolgast (d. 1474) and his wife Sophia of Pomerania-Stolp (d. 1497).

Sophie of Pomerania-Stettin ( - 26 April 1504, Wismar), was Duchess of Mecklenburg by marriage from 1478 to 1504. She was the daughter of Eric II of Pomerania-Wolgast (d. 1474) and his wife Sophia of Pomerania-Stolp (d. 1497). Her brother was Bogislaw X (1454-1523), who ruled the country for almost fifty years as a unified territory.

In 17th century duke Philip II decided to build fifth wing, the so-called Museum wing. The last Pomeranian duke was Boguslaw XIV (1580-1637). The Westwal’s Treaty (1648) divided the duchy into two parts where western part with Szczecin fell to Swedes.
The Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle has five wings and two courtyards. Acting as a cultural institution it organizes an array of cultural events: concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions, conferences and meetings to popularize science, as well as to spread knowledge about the history of West Pomerania. The largest wing houses an Opera.
