   When did the Venice Film Festival start?

   • The event continued into the first few years of World War II, but it was relocated between 1940 and 1942 to escape bombing; it then went on hiatus until 1946. The 1947 festival took place at Venice’s Ducal Palace, where audience numbers ballooned to 90,000. The event returned to the Palazzo del Cinema in 1949, where it’s been held ever since.
