Nowadays, for the common fan who isn't part of Gate 21, or any other ultras group for that matter, politics isn't really something they concern themselves with regarding what team they support. But I would say that in the past the majority of AEK fans, Gate 21 or not, were left leaning.
AEK started being successful early on and thus built its own fan base. Over time, it acquired valuable players, such as the renowned Kostas Negrepontis who came from Istanbul and relocated to Athens in 1926 following a successful career in French clubs.
