Nov 4, 2023 · Located on the South shore of Burrard Inlet, Gastown was the home to the first settlement in what would come to be known as the City of Vancouver. In its infancy, the area housed the Hastings Mill Sawmill and was the Western terminus of the Canadian Pacific Railway .
Gastown is the original settlement that became the core of the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and a national historic site and a neighbourhood in the northwest section of the Downtown Eastside, adjacent to Downtown Vancouver.
Gastown is in the city centre of Vancouver, close to the congress centre and to many restaurants and shops. In case of big events it's plenty of policemen and people are hanging around till late. Forse sure it's a safe area, but all the accomodation are quite expensive. I hope you find something nice and affordable.

- Go shopping. Perfect for a low-key kinda day, grab a coffee and take a stroll down Water Street and Cordova Street for some awesome shopping. Gastown’s beautiful historic buildings are filled with bright shops and trendy boutiques just begging for you to stop in!
- Check out the Flatiron Building. Built in 1908, the Flatiron Building is a famous piece of architecture in Gastown. Just past Maple Tree Square on the Eastern end of Gastown, this is a great stop to add in if you’re out exploring or shopping.
Vancouver’s Historic Gastown. Gastown is where you’ll find the old town of Vancouver with its heritage brick buildings, historic character, tourist shops and fine restaurants. It’s an attractive area of historical significance, which explains why it has been officially designated a national historic site.
