Hiratsuka Station. Hiratsuka Station is the major railway station for the city of Hiratsuka in Kanagawa Prefecture. However, it’s only served by one train line—the JR Tokaido Line—with 4 platforms. The square and wide road to the north of the station are the venue for the annual Tanabata Festival, which is one of the most popular in Japan.

If I had taken the 10:00am bus, I’d only have had ten minutes to enjoy the observatory before having to catch the 10:45am bus back to the station (or wait until 1:45pm, or walk at least 20 minutes, about 1.6 kilometers, to the closest bus stop).
