  1. I know that the Clearwater speakers have been out for a long time now and they’re the only plug and play aftermarket speakers designed specifically for the Miata that I’m aware of. They’re $200 bucks on Moss Miata and when there are other cheaper speakers going for half that, I’m not sure if I should shell out for the Clearwater. 1.

  2. Mar 8, 2010 · Get Max5's. The door speakers are awfully expensive @ $220/pair. True, they drop in, but with a sensitivity of only 89, you may want an amp to drive them, even with an aftermarket headunit. $120 for a set of 4 headrest speakers including the harness isn't that bad of a deal, though I haven't heard them.

  4. Mar 8, 2010 · I added clearwater headrest speakers also, and music sounds fine through them, but it's spoken word that clearly shines through them. My Alpine stereo has bluetooth handsfree phone, and phone calls are super clear through the headrest speakers. So is talk radio. More so than from the door speakers. Just my 2 cents.

  6. Anyway, I found them on gomiata.com if anyone's interested. $200. incl. 8" door speakers and 1" tweeters and those custom crossover modules. And they claim it's all waterproof. <-- why I chose these. EDIT: I found a zip tie lying around the office. both sides are in! They sound awesome with the top down, and even better with the top up!

  7. Sep 22, 2004 · Need I say more. If you have a 96 miata I d recommend calling Clearwater first before ordering the speakers. Clearwater can be reached at (916)983-6162. So in conclusion if you have a miata and are even considering upgrading the headrest speakers go with the Clearwater ones.

  8. On my 91 that had it mounted, I put it under the dash and behind the fresh air tube (behind the glovebox essentially) that non-AC cars have. Plan to upgrade the speakers at the same time the stock ones, even if they aren’t blown, probably can’t handle the power before blowing to bits. Plenty of decent brand 2-way speakers in the ~$150 range .
