Oct 20, 2021 · Eric Blore appeared in over eighty motion pictures. He began his acting career playing mostly military types and bluebloods, but it is portrayals of butlers, valets, and waiters that he is best remembered for.
With his swordfish nose and waspish, cut-glass British accent, Eric Blore was Hollywood's go-to man for irascible snob roles from 1933 onward. He'd starred as Lord Digby in the 1926 silent version of 'The Great Gatsby', starring Warner Baxter and William Powell, but his successes up to this point had been mainly on the stage.
Blore could also be counted on to inject a degree of dry comedy into genre pictures, most notably as Jamison, the faithful manservant to jewel thief-turned-private eye Michael Lanyard, a.k.a. the "Lone Wolf," in a series of 11 thrillers between 1940 and 1947.
